Title and Author

The title and author of a document is important metadata to give to a document. Metadata is information connected to a document but not within the content of the document.

The title will be read aloud by a screen reader every time a user navigates back to your pattern. I suggest making your title simple and effective, between 5 to 10 words. As well, having the author set is useful information to keep with your pattern so future users will be able to refer back to you.

If you plan on keeping your document as a word or google doc I would suggest using a professional or throw-away email account connected to your document. This way people who download your pattern do not have the ability to contact your main email directly.

Word Doc

In the ribbon go to File, then on the left side panel go down to Info. On the right side of the screen you will see the metadata of the document. Here you can give the document a title and add authors.

Google Doc

You can set the title of your document in the upper left hand corner.

In a Google Doc the author is set automatically to whoever created the file, but ownership and authorship can be transfered when needed. This is done by first sharing your file with another user. Then once shared, go back to sharing options, toggle the sub-menu and choose "transfer ownership".
